Fiber Trench Depth: AI powered detection (VIDEO)

November 19, 2024

Fiber optic locations are all about the regulations. Things need to be done precisely by the book, or something most certainly won’t work in the end.

One of the most important things concerning fiber related fieldwork is the depth of the trench.

The depth at which buried cable can be placed will vary with local conditions and regulations. Getting the trench depth just right means the cable won’t freeze over or get damaged from road maintenance or other digging.

CloseOut AI robot now detects and validates specific trench depth during fiber optic fieldwork.

Since different trench depths are needed depending on the situation on the field, we made sure all the options are covered and developed AI modules for each of them: 0.6, 0.8, 0.9, 1, 1.2 and 1.4 meters of depth.

Each depth has its own AI module which uses photograph of a trench with a meter in it to decide if the depth is optimal and the picture validated.

It’s extremely valuable as proof that the cable was installed on the right depth.
